November 15th, 2009 at 3:57 pm"harriet43" Says:
Hi Katie – so glad you’re enjoying the book. And also that your whole family is queueing up to read it! Weston Road High School would appear to be a very busy visiting area – I think we had better number all these alternative ways up to the Other Side as Exit 42a, 42b and 42c.

Hi Cameron,
December 5th, 2009 at 10:39 amYes, that’s fine. I think it’ll have to be slightly to one side of the gate, where no one actually walks, otherwise there’d be people falling down into the Underworld all the time. We’ll have Exit 95 as agreed too in the Prees graveyard (very convenient for Novices like Jessie coming up to find out about their relatives).

Hi Brodie! I remember you from today! I really liked your school. Yes, that would be fine. Perhaps you could decide which shop exactly, as I don’t know Dudley very well.

Hi Laura,
February 7th, 2010 at 2:13 pmI dreamt the word “EXIT” (a connecting place between the worlds of the living and the dead) and plucked the number 43 out of nowhere! The whole idea came to me in a dream.

Hi Harriet
February 22nd, 2010 at 5:49 pmOn February 22nd 2010 you came to my school (Boldmere Junior School). I have an idea for an Exit at school. It is in the field under a huge slab by our Annexe. My classroom is in there. Also I enjoyed the assembly you gave to my school.
Please Respond

Hi James,
February 22nd, 2010 at 6:08 pmWhat a great place for an Exit. Which number shall we give it?

Hi Harriet
February 23rd, 2010 at 8:51 pmI LOVE YOUR BOOK!
I like writing loads. I do it all the time and I love reading too. Your book was so descriptive and it’s the way I like to write! I think the place in Pinkneys Green Wood where a plane crashed in the second world war would be a good Exit. There is a memorial stone which could be the entrance and please can it be Exit number 2?
"harriet43" Says:
Hi Leah,
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 pmIf I were you I would keep a diary, read lots and lots of books and write stories. That really is the best advice I can give. That way you will just get better and better and better!
"harriet43" Says:
Thanks David – I love that suggestion!
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:09 pm"harriet43" Says:
Excellent, James – that will be added to the list.

Thanks Katie – you’re a star!
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm"harriet43" Says:
Dear Catherine,
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:17 pmI really like that idea – in fact I think it’s FANTASTIC! I will get it added to the list when it’s next updated. So glad you love the book, and it’s great that you enjoy writing so much. Have you tried writing a whole book yet?! Keep in touch!
"Catherine" Says:
I have written stories that I have finished but I’m not sure any of them are long enough to be classified as a book. I did get into the final of a story compition in year 5 but I like doing it for fun. How long did it take you to write The Boy Who Fell Down Exit 43?
February 24th, 2010 at 9:05 am"harriet43" Says:
Catherine – the very best way to write is for fun. Writing MUST be fun, or else there’s no point. It can be very hard work, but you must never lose the love of it. EXIT 43 took about eight months to write (first draft).
February 24th, 2010 at 9:55 am"abigail" Says:
Dear Harriet,
February 25th, 2010 at 5:59 pmOn 22nd February u came to bjs (boldmere junior school) and u stopped and signed your book “the boy who fell down exit 43″. It was an honour meeting you. Quick question: do they have to be real exits or can they be made up? Sorry if my spelling isn’t that good – I am not much of a great speller.
Abi
"Reece Amiss" Says:
Hey Harriet if you`ve not got this Exit, try Exit 700.
February 25th, 2010 at 6:47 pm"george adderley boldmere js" Says:

February 25th, 2010 at 9:04 pm"harriet43" Says:
Abi – your spelling is excellent! You can make up the Exits, that’s fine! They need to be really off the beaten track though – and remember YOU CANNOT HAVE ONE IN THE STAFFROOM!!!!!
February 26th, 2010 at 10:20 am"harriet43" Says:
Hi Reece. Exit 700 is fine, but where exactly is it?
February 26th, 2010 at 10:23 am"harriet43" Says:
Hello George,
February 26th, 2010 at 10:27 amThe solidified spirits will get pretty wet if they have to come up through a river. And remember they are terrified of water. Maybe the river bank instead? What do you reckon?
"george adderley boldmere js" Says:
Yeah – OK. Thanx
February 26th, 2010 at 5:29 pm"abigail" Says:
OK – shame we can’t use the staffroom. Exit 52 – outside my school where a stump of a tree is. Just behind there. Good job my spelling is good..I would have felt like an idiot!!! Abi

"Martha BJS 6D" Says:
Hi again Harriet,
March 1st, 2010 at 8:34 pmI forgot to put in my last message that the Exit is called Exit 1 million. I dont know how many zeros it’s got.

"harriet43" Says:
Hi Abi,
March 9th, 2010 at 8:05 pmThat would be a bit difficult, as I would have to do the same for everybody and then I wouldn’t have any time to write more stories. BUT I often do creative writing classes when I come into schools, so maybe one day I could come back to your school and take a creative writing class with you in it?
