Blue Peter Book I Couldn’t Put Down: (2pm Saturday 20 March, Christ Church Dining Hall, Oxford)
7-12s Three books were shortlisted this year in Blue Peter’s ‘Book I Couldn’t Put Down’ category, and all three authors are appearing here in the setting for Hogwarts hall to talk about their shortlisted books.
I offer a flexible mixture of presentation sessions and creative writing workshops for students.
During the presentations I talk about life as an author, tell students what inspired me to write in the first place, go through the first half of The Boy Who Fell Down Exit 43 using a fun box of props, take a Q and A session and play a popular memory game…with a few prizes! If they want me to, I can also show the students the “other side” of me (I am a classically-trained singer) and give them a blast of Puccini! All this I do with as big a group of children as required (sometimes as many as 400), usually either Key Stage 2 Primary or Year 7 Secondary.
I can then take a much smaller group of students for a creative writing workshop (about 30 usually works well), in which we explore openings to stories, characterisation and the art of getting your writing to “spring off the page”. This session can be done with a range of abilities and ages.
My fees are negotiable and flexible, and for travel I charge only for fuel.
Schools can contact me via the Contact Details page of this website.
